Their setting is picturesque and laid out across the Sarasota bay front, providing a pristine backdrop for live music, dance, theater and comedy since 1968. Built on a bequest from philanthropists Lewis and Eugenia Van Wezel, the hall opened up with a Fiddler on the Roof production. Since that time, Van Wezel Hall has welcomed such productions and entertainers with a broad range of world renowned symphonies, classical and modern dance companies, jazz artists, pop performers, comedians and Broadway productions.+

Being one of the main Sarasota resources for educational and cultural outreach programs, Van Wezel reaches out to enrich the lives of everyone from toddlers to senior citizens. Van Wezel is a member of the prestigious Partners in Education Program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The program provides professional development workshops for teachers of drama and the arts!

The Van Wezel Hall holds 1,736 seats and a new Grand Foyer, as well as additional restrooms, a new stage house and the very latest in sound and lighting systems. Additional venues that seat smaller groups feature open Bay front lawns and accommodate an additional 1500 people.

Entertainment Sarasota and BradentonVan Wezel has an Education/Outreach Mission statement that covers all their programs and the infusion of education and creativity they hope to promote every year. Their creative mission statement for their arts program begins with the wordTRANSFORM– Local youngsters are exposed to internationally renowned artists, and through sponsorships and a daily $7 ticket rate, are receiving a once in a lifetime opportunity to receive instruction and materials that will simply plant a seed in a young one, or power a rocket ship talent into the professional leagues…but one think is important – the encouragement these children get let them believe that the sky is the limit for all of them.

Next comes FOSTER-the most important people are the teachers and we support them and engage them in collaboration with the Program of the Performing Arts of John F. Kennedy. Then Van Wezel ENGAGES face to face discussions with the artists through master classes, classroom art workshops, and dynamic community programs.
